The chuppah is imbued with centuries-old symbolism. It reminds us of the home that the newly married couple will establish together, as well as the open-sided tent of Abraham that welcomes all guests. Today, the chuppah also symbolises a couple’s individuality and reflects the bride and groom’s relationship, histories, and values.

"A custom-designed chuppah adds distinction to any wedding", say Diana Harrison and Perri Cohen, creators of "Chuppahs". "The moments under the chuppah are amongst the most memorable in any couple’s lives," says Diana "But those moments are over all too quickly. A personalised chuppah creates a lasting keepsake that recalls that first important step as a couple."

Having established a name for "Chuppahs" in the Israel, Diana and Perri are now offering their beautiful, hand-painted pure silk chuppahs here in the UK.

Roz Galber, who has known Perri since the time she lived in Israel twenty years ago, feels closely attached to the country. Promoting these wonderful chuppahs is her way of remaining part of Israel. She also feels there is a need for something a little different and refreshing, a change from the velvet embroidered style chuppah that has been around for years.

These pure silk chuppahs, entirely designed and hand-painted by Diana and Perri, are true works of art. "The design process is very personal," notes Perri. "We liaise with Roz Galber and between us we get the couple thinking about what they want to ‘say’ with their chuppah. "

Sometimes, the parents of a prospective bride or groom will decide to create a family chuppah, which becomes an heirloom, handed from couple to couple and kept for future generations.

For these family chuppahs it is possible to create an individual matching banner or wall hanging for each wedding, as a personal memento for each couple to hang in their new home.

There is a rich selection of designs to choose from which can be personalized to your own taste. Each design is available either as a full-size chuppah or a chuppah where the centre square (85cm x 85cm) is detached after the wedding to become a wall-hanging to decorate the couple's new home.

Roz will be happy arrange a meeting to show prospective brides and grooms and their families samples and a portfolio. She will help coordinate the colours to blend with those of the wedding, and offer the choice of a selection of wedding blessings - or perhaps you would like to include one that is completely your own. The bride and groom's names and wedding date can be added in English or Hebrew.
